Time management, in today’s day and age, is a much-needed life skill. Are you usually punctual or late? Do you finish things within the time you stipulate? Do you hand in your reports/work on time? Are you able to accomplish?
It is important to manage time well not just achieve goals at work, but also in life outside of it. Time management is perhaps the only tool that can help achieve that ‘work-life balance’ that seems elusive to a lot of people.
Time management is important to enhance productivity, meet targets effectively, achieve tasks with ease, get better results and most importantly, time management is important to find more time for what’s most important. Coming to think of it, actionable time management techniques are not rocket science. One must know the value of time and make optimum use of it. The art of getting the maximum out of the 24 hours in a day available to us is what ‘time management’ is all about. Here are three best tips or ways to help people better manage their time and ultimately become more productive.
Every day, prepare a list of the things you need to do and then identify the tasks you feel are the most important or crucial and get those done first. These should be completed on a priority basis. The less important ones can be done later or maybe the next day.
Whatever task you have at hand, make sure you do your spadework before you begin. All your documents, notes and other things required should be in place. Preparing beforehand helps in saving a lot of time. Streamline everything to be fully organised. Group similar tasks together so that your mind can be focussed and your thought process can flow in one direction at a time. Eliminate what is not required. Avoid distractions and remain committed to achieving your set goal.
Go slow. Don’t get extra busy trying to do too much. Do things that really matter. Earmark what needs to be done and focus on that. Do things of more value. Take one thing at a time rather than trying to do all at once. “Work smarter, not harder.” Enjoy what you are doing.
