Every once in a while, the monotonous drudgery of routine life is broken by a spa therapy that literally comes in like a whiff of fresh air in the life of lucky travel writers/bloggers. I was privy to one such day that I spent in the sanctuary of Rejuve, the signature spa from The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group at The Lalit in Chandigarh.
Rejuve offers a complete holistic experience encompassing aroma, ayurvedic, herbal and natural therapy, patented colour healing and yoga to patrons. The spa offers aroma, Ayurveda, herbal and natural therapies, in addition to exclusive yoga sessions for ultimate tranquillity.
Nestled within impeccably landscaped gardens, adjacent to the IT hub of Chandigarh, The Lalit gracefully blends style and with a sense of calm and relaxation. The fact that the spa is cut off from the hustle and bustle of the hotel is a unique advantage that adds to its serene charm. There seems a metaphorical reason to have mirror-panels surrounding the corridors – they make you want to look within and connect with yourself. As you are ushered into the therapy room, the soft soothing music and the inviting and warm floral fragrances relax you almost instantly.
I had been recommended an Aromatherapy Massage to loosen the knots in my mind and body and a Frangipani Wrap to nourish my tired and pollution-battered skin.
Mr Krishna Semwal, Manager, The Rejuve Spa helped me understand why this particular treatment was recommended. Apparently, the frangipani flower (associated with Buddhist meditation) has the ability to help people retain their calm, and even a new sense of grounding and self. The tree itself is known as the “Tree of Life” and highly regarded for centuries for its healing powers. Frangipani essential oil has a prominent place in aromatherapy due to the scent’s rejuvenating qualities for the mind and body when the essence is inhaled. In addition, it is believed that aromatherapy with frangipani oil effects deep internal cleansing that refreshes the body, mind and soul. Incidentally, frangipani oil has age defying effects and helps revive the skin and hair. Because it is easily absorbed by the skin, it is also a fast-acting oil that makes skin healthier, smoother and softer.
The Therapy Process
It all started with a soft and tender foot ritual where my feet were washed and soaked for five minutes in water infused with gerbera petals. As I laid down on the massage table, the actual therapy started with a warm oil massage using a special blend Detoxifying Oil from Kronocare. The 60-minute massage with this intoxicating oil and the absolutely perfect pressure from Shiwang, my amazing masseuse, had me snoring, really!
I was whisked away to the steam area within the therapy room where the heat opened my pores for the oily goodness to penetrate into my skin.
I was asked to take a warm water shower after 10 minutes – and not to use shower gel or soap. After patting my skin dry, I was engulfed in a rehydrating body masque, drenched in the fragrance of fresh frangipani flowers, to nourish and hydrate the skin. Cotton towels were wrapped around me to the warmth could make the goodness of the masque permeate to the subcutaneous tissues. While the masque worked its magic, Shewang, my cheerful Bhutanese masseuse proceed to oil and massage my hair and scalp with detoxifying oil. I was in bliss!
After 30 minutes, I showered and shampooed my hair and was literally fresh as new! Even the next morning, I was amazed to note the scent of frangipani on my dewy skin. This is a therapy that literally does introduce you to a new you!
