Top five perfumes for the season

French lace, good wine and a cruise – if these are your ideas of luxury, we would like to add five new covetable items to your list. A true glamazon’s boudoir is never complete without a good luxury fragrance. Here is our verdict on the five newest perfumes to spread their fragrances. At least one of these must make it to your shopping list from your overseas trip (simply because they are not available in India).

1. Viktor & Rolf Bon Bon
Their first fragrance, Flowerbomb, was far away from flowers. But this time around, V&R have hit the bull’s eye. Bonbon is exactly what it says – caramel, candy, sugar – a gourmand scent which is bound to be a crowd-pleaser. From inception to completion, the caramel notes mature from a sharp, edible top note to softer and milkier in the middle then darkening to add depth to the base note. Mandarin orange, peach and jasmine form the middle notes, while the amber and sandalwood undercurrents break up the richness. This is an absolute haute confection. Available in 30, 50 and 90 ml variants, it is still exclusive to Saks. Price on request.

2. Bvlgari Omnia Indian Garnet

India is the inspiration for Bvlgari’s offering of the season. The exotic fragrance is at once desirable, seductive, mysterious, and elusive. Created by Alberto Morillas, the perfume opens up with top notes of mandarin and saffron while a heart of Indian tuberose and osmanthus and base notes of Indian woods and amber complete the perfume, which was launched in India earlier this year in the Rambagh Palace. Available as 25, 40 and 65 ml EDT is priced at Rs 6100.

3. Dolce & Gabbana Dolce

A sophisticated delicate feminine mix of daffodils, neroli leaves and white amaryllis – that is what the fresh and airy Dolce is all about. And yet its distinct sweet floral twist makes it a luxurious fragrance. Availability may be an issue for a while as it was just released in Italy for the spring season. Price: Rs 5500 for 50ml.

4. Beyonce Rise

Rise is about Beyonce’s on-stage persona, as well as about female empowerment and finding the inner strength that makes women so beautiful. The fragrance is supposedly more intimate and more natural than the previous ones, inspired by the works of singer’s favorite poet Maya Angelou. This is reflected in the composition of the bright floral fragrance created by Loc Dong. While the opening notes include apricot, Italian bergamot and iced basil sorbet, the main note of the perfume is, of course, orchid, which is mixed with freesia and Sambac jasmine flowers and placed at the base of the autumn woods, cashmere, musk and vetiver. The fragrance is available as 15, 30 and 50 ml EDP with an accompanying collection for body care. Price on request.

5. Prada Candy Florale
Anything by Prada has to be chic and their new fragrance doesn’t disappoint. Blended by perfumer Daniela Andrier under the creative direction of the legendary Miuccia Prada, this is the third perfume from Prada’s Candy collection. Prada Candy Florale evolved from the concept of an imaginary flower created especially for Candy. Of course, Candy cannot simply have any flower, her flower has to be wondrous and sophisticated, unlike any other. The fragrance is an uplifting mix of floral and honey without being too sickly sweet giving a light scent that’s perfect for the summer months.  This romantic and powdery composition contains accords of limoncello sorbet the top, flower of peony in the heart and the base composed of benzoin, musk, caramel and honey. The fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 80 ml EDT. Price on request.
